I was born in Evergreen Park, IL. Lived in Mokena, Tinlyey Park, and Orland Park IL. We moved to Glendale AZ in 1984 and currently reside in Peoria AZ. I grew up on Big Wheels, The Green Machine and got my dream bike, The P.K Ripper! From my earliest memories I can remember loving music. The first song that got "stuck in my head" was Down In The Boondocks by Billy Joe Royal. From that point on music was my obsession. I started playing drums when I was 13 and continue to enjoy playing to this day.
On one fateful day in late 1984 (in AZ) at Peoria High School I met a person who remains my best friend to this day, Dave (or David or Doc). Instantly, I knew that Dave (or David or Doc) had the same love of music and hilarious sense of humor that I did. It's been an incredibly fun adventure these last 30 + years. Doing this podcast seems like the next natural step in our "adventure." I look forward to recounting some great stories, discussing our love of music (and TV, movies, etc.) and many other topics as we go, Beyond The Rabbit Hole.
Doc grew up in the village of Sasquatchian in the upper-to-mid northwest. His childhood was similar to most: dreaming of giant tree sloth, wondering if airplanes have feelings, and enjoying a homemade slice of "meatcake". Every holiday season, the family would hold "Turkey Day Races" by building and racing go-carts from parts of old lawn mowers. Safety was paramount....each racer was required to wear a "turkey helmet" that consisted of an actual store-bought turkey(the 10-pound ones provided the best protection!). Oh, but don't worry...it was safe. The turkeys were fully cooked!
Truth be told...Doc met Ken when they both attended the Marky Marceu School for Wayward Mimes. With miming a passion, Ken and Doc hit it off right away and were destined for greatness. Then, tragedy struck. An outing was held for the school and, in mime fashion, all were required to "mime" their way to the event. Everyone mimed their favorite method of transportation. Unfortunately, the outing was 20 miles away (instead of what was originally thought as 2 miles). As people started to collapse, life-saving techniques were put into place. Only, being mimes, all assistance was mimicked. Needless to say, "we lost a lot of great people that day" and the school was immediately shuttered. To this day, you rarely see mimes in public....
